URGENT NOTICE FROM SAN DIEGO POLICE DEPARTMENT:
Community: Phone Scam Alert
Beware; phone scammers have recently been posing as members of the Sheriff's Department.
The criminals call the victims and identify themselves as Sheriff's Deputies or representing the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. The victims are told they have outstanding warrants. Callers claim they will clear the arrest warrant or cancel a pending court appearance if the potential victim sends money within a certain time-frame. Victims are also told the Sheriff's Department will have a local police officer come to their home and arrest them if they don’t send money. If you receive a solicitation for money based on this scenario, it's a scam.
On Wednesday, January 10th, a caller claiming to be a Sergeant from the Sheriff's Financial Crimes Unit informed a 69-year-old woman from Fashion Valley that she won $600,000, but she would have to send a check in order to pay the taxes on the prize. The woman in this case called the Sheriff's Department and discovered the call was bogus.
Impersonating a Sheriff's Deputy is a violation of state law. No deputy or employee of the Sheriff's Department will ever contact members of the public by telephone to demand money or any other form of payment. If someone tells you they need money for you to receive money, it's a scam. If you get this type of call, hang up immediately.
People with outstanding warrants are encouraged to turn themselves in Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at any one of the Sheriff's Court Facilities http://goo.gl/y035S. For more information on warrants and bail notices, visit http://goo.gl/J5N5g. Contact Information:

A note from our New Community Liaison Officer for Eastern Division at the SDPD—Officer Tafoya
To the San Diego Police Eastern Division Community:
I wanted to introduce myself to the Eastern Community. I will be the Community Liaison Officer for San Diego Police Eastern Division. A little about me: I have been a police officer for three years. Before my law enforcement career, I was a high school teacher and a college basketball coach. Needless to say I am a big sports fan!
As the Community Liaison Officer at Eastern, I am here to help you out in any way I can. Some of the things I can do for you, but not limited to, are:
--Neighborhood Watch program
--Coordinate area division police speakers’ request
--Conduct station tours
--Provide crime prevention training or tips
--Liaison to community problems
I would also like to welcome you to SDPD Eastern’s facebook page. Please feel free to contact me with concerns or other community/police related problems. Please note if you have an emergency call 911 or (619) 531-2000 for non-emergencies.
Thank you for your time and I look forward to meeting with you.
